EARTHQUAKE RESISTANCE

Wooden structured buildings are generally used for single storied buildings making the advantage of its lighter weight compared to concrete &steel buildings. The established earth-quake resistantconstructions are rubber bearing s in between two raft foundations, steel structures and rcc structures designed for certain limits, light weight structures like G.F.R.G, E.P.S,pre-stressed concrete structures etc. on basis of its light weight. The main dis advantage of steel&R.C.C structures are its heavy weight badly affecting the structural designs &the cost.but for light structures its lower load carrying capacity stability limits its adaptability
In conventional R.C.C the main drawback is the higher sectional requirements and the heavy weight also the limited durability concerns and lesser handling damage resistance. Also, as the civil structure is a combination of so many components. The lest durable component makes the criticality and durability of entire structure. Conventionalsystemsrequire, centering, shuttering, de-shuttering, technicaleminence, skilledlabors. The quality varies with level of skill, equipsused, standard of raw materials used andcuring determining the strength and durability of the structure. Also warping due to temperature variations is an inheriting property which may lead to leakage and porosity to the structure. The conventional rcc deflects regains according to the live loads and shrinks &warps along with temperature variations. There will be small hair cracks in tensile zone of the R.C.C due to elongation of steel in tensile zone giving deflection to the structure. This will also reduce the life of the structure as the steel was exposed to weather for corrosion. Water seepage through slabs makes leaching reducing the strength of concrete. Also, the thermal conduction will be higher for solid thickness. The pre-stressed combination system includes conventional R.C.C along with pre stressed components. The durability was determined by the durability of the conventional component
